(More customer reviews)I needed a decent quality drill press for my workshop.I build acoustic guitars and my use for drilling holes is limited; however, the few holes I do drill must be quality.
I started reading the reviews for the Jet, Delta, and Grizzly products below $500 and I was very nervous regarding their runout.I had originally bought a small Craftsman that had terrible runout; and which, I promptly returned.Runout was something I just didn't want to mess with.I had never heard of Palmgren but their promise of negligable spindle runout seemed promising. So I took a chance and am sure glad I did.The motor seems more than competent. The spindle depth is quite large and there is no runout. The chuck is also of good quality.
One of the v-belts did cause a lot of noise and vibration (which did not affect the performance at all).So I switched the belts out with PowerTwist link belts - which I strongly recommend for ANY woodworking tool as they are nothing short of amazing. The drill press is now barely audible and there is no noticeable vibration.
The drill press is well made with just about every part being cast iron. The pieces are well-machined and appear to be under tight tolerances. The paint job is attractive and finely done. Please note that I have experience with high quality machinery.I purchased a $5000 Italian-made MiniMax jointer/planer that is one beautiful machine.
Overall, I am extremely happy with my purchase.I would strongly recommend this drill press over the competition.
